Problems of political history of Ukraine are covered in the monographs "Conservative current in the socio-political thought of Ukraine in the XIX century" (1996), "Conservative-political concept of statehood" (1997), "Essays on the history of social movements and political parties in Ukraine (XIX-XX) art.) ”(2001) (co-author); in historical and political research on M. Tugan-Baranovsky, S. Fedak, I. Franko, P. Franko, R. Zubyk and others.
Problems of the origin and development of Ukrainian conservative political thought he revealed in the monograph "Vasyl Kuchabsky: From the National Idea to Statehood" (1998). In it, he analyzed the assessments of the Ukrainian national revolution of 1917–1921 and, in this connection, Ukrainian-Polish and Ukrainian-Russian relations. He also focused on the study and popularization of Kuchabsky's work "Western Ukraine in the Struggle against Poland and Bolshevism in 1918-1923" ("Die Westukraine im Kampfe mit Polen und dem Bolschewismus in den Jahren 1918-1923"), published in Berlin in German in 1934. The work had a great influence on the development of historical thought in Ukraine, and I. Lysyak-Rudnytsky called it the only one that “rises to the level of historiography of great style.” In 2015, S. Geley and T. Lisna translated it into Ukrainian. .
This scientist have published the following textbooks and manuals on this issue: "State Worldview of Vyacheslav Lypynsky" (1994), "Ukrainian Political Science", part. I and II (1996–1997), “Short Historical Terminology Dictionary” (1999), “World and European Integration. Organizational Principles ”(2001) (in collaboration),“ Political and Legal Systems of the World ”(2002, 2006, 2012), (co-author S. Rutar),“ Introduction to the History of Ukraine ”course (2004) (co-author V. Halyuk). Handbook for Higher Education "Political Science", which he co-authored with Assoc. S. Rutar, had 9 editions in Kyiv and Lviv (1996–2015).
At the same time, S. Geley researches the history of the cooperative movement and the Ukrainian cooperative idea. He is the founder and head of the of Cooperative Construction, well-known in Ukraine and abroad scientific school, author of a number of monographs, textbooks and manuals, dictionaries and reference books on this issue.
A successful project in Ukrainian historiography was the publication by a team of scholars edited by Prof. S. Geley of historical essays "Ukrainian cooperators" in 3 books. (1997–2007). They contain 116 historical essays on the life and creative activity of prominent public and political figures - scientists, lawyers, priests, cultural figures, who were supporters of the cooperative idea in Ukraine. The genesis of the cooperative idea, scientific and practical achievements of its bearers and ascetics are revealed in the book "Ukrainian cooperative idea in the European context" (2003).
In 2008, S. Heley completed a thorough long-term study of the history of Lviv University of Trade and Economics (624 pages, 797 illustrations) - the oldest trade and economic university in Ukraine. In this work, the scientist intensified the achievements of a cohort of prominent figures of science and education, who lived and worked in different educational communities: Austrian, Polish XIX - early XX century, Polish - interwar period, Ukrainian - during the development of the national liberation movement, Soviet and modern Ukrainian. In 2010 he published a one-man monograph "Ilya Vitanovich: scientific, pedagogical and social activities", which for the first time in Ukrainian historiography analyzed the works of a prominent scientist in the history of Ukraine, sociology, history of the economic thought, theory and history of cooperation. Cooperation, in I. Vytanovych's understanding, satisfied not only the material needs of Ukrainian citizenship, served as a natural manifestation of social and economic self-organization of the people, but also was the source and engine of its cultural and spiritual self-development.
In 2013, for the first time in the history of Ukraine, a monumental scientific study "Consumer Cooperation of Ukraine: from its inception to the present" was published under the editorship of S. Geley. The work covers the history of the most common type of cooperation in Ukraine from the emergence of the first consumer societies to the characteristics of modern cooperative organizations. The authors of the study drew attention to the organizational dynamics, ideological foundations and national and civic significance of the Ukrainian cooperative movement, which aimed at social justice, human rights, economic independence. The work contains a large number of sources, most of which were used for the first time.
Under the guidance of S. Geley, textbooks for students of higher educational institutions were also published: "History of the Cooperative Movement" (1995), "History of Consumer Cooperation" (1996) - which cover the main stages of development of world and Ukrainian economic thought, reveal the role and place of cooperation in life of people in recent decades. In 2004 S. Geley (co-author) published a textbook for 11 classes of secondary schools "Fundamentals of Cooperation", and in 2006 (co-author with R. Pastushenko) - a textbook for higher education institutions "Theory and History of Cooperation". He also was one of the co-authors of the textbook "Cooperative Law", ed. V. Semchik (1998).
Edited by S. Geley, two books were published "In the struggle for the freedom of Ukraine. Memoirs, biographies, documents, materials” (2005, 2006), which critics later called a publishing model that condenses the “collective memory of the people” (J. Dashkevych). The introduction to one of them, the Way of the Cross of the Ukrainian Church, states that "today the main burden of reviving the national spirituality of Ukrainians, overcoming the consequences of denationalization, and ending the destructive influence of the Moscow Patriarchate with its chauvinistic attitude falls on the national church."
In the monograph "Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Babukhov" (2015) the author covers the activities of the church community in the family village of Babukhov, Rohatyn region, from the XV century to this day, clarifies the role of the clergy in the education of their own people, in the awakening of national consciousness and state thinking.
The scientist also owns two collections of articles "From the national idea to statehood ..." (2011) and "On ideas, heroes and politics" (2016). They include 150 articles and reports, interviews, reviews and responses to scientific papers and dissertations, in which the author provides specific material for conceptual generalizations about the role and place of the intelligentsia in the national liberation movement, acquaints the reader with the views of scholars on problems of development of humanitarian  sciences, Ukrainian culture and spirituality, economic development of Galicia and Ukrainian cooperation. S. Geley - one of the authors of the 3-volume "History of Lviv" (2007), wrote a number of articles for the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine, the Encyclopedia of Lviv, the Encyclopedia of the Scientific Society.
