Department Overview

The Department of Marketing was founded in 1989 on the basis of the market science section of the Department of Trade Organization and Technique. It was the first Department of Marketing in higher educational institutions of the Soviet Union, which was created thanks to the talent and perseverance of Associate Professor Stanislav Volodymyrovych Skybinskyi, who was able to forecast the future sharp increase in the need for specialists in marketing and soon ensured the establishment of “Marketing” specialty of intramural and extramural form of training, licensing and accreditation of training marketers of Bachelor, Specialist and Master educational and qualification levels. Prof. S.V. Skybinskyi  was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology in 2011 for significant contribution to the scientific and educational work.

The backbone of the Department of Marketing was made by the Associate Professors S.O. Kaystrukov, E.P. Luciv, K.M. Prohorenko, S.V. Skybinskyi who were recognized the experts at that time in market functioning and researches as well as in advertising. Initially the Department was a part of Сommodity Science faculty with the status of graduating on commodity science and economic specialties. During the establishment of the International Economic Relations faculty in 1993 the Department was  included to this faculty with the status of graduating on the specialties of “International economic relations” and “Marketing” and was renamed into a Department of “Marketing and exterior economic activity”.

At the period of 1989-2000 the Department was joined by the young scientists like N.F. Basii, I.V. Boichuk, I.R. Bodnar, Y.A. Dainovskyi, L.O. Ivanova, A.I. Mokii, B.B. Semak, M.G. Topchian, A.I. Fedorchuk, V.O. Shevchuk, L.A. Yaremko and others. Exactly at this period of the Department development there was laid the foundation of its successful activities in scientific, methodical and educational work; there was done all work on certification and licensing of appropriate specialties on the highest, fourth level of accreditation. Since 2000, as a result of division, the Department has been renamed into the Department of Marketing with the status of graduating on eponymous specialty. The staff of the Department was replenished with young teachers like N.R. Baluk, S.V. Koriagina, A.A. Kurylo, O.M. Muzyka, L.M. Orel, U.R. Suhorska, D.M. Iahvak. Since establishment the Department has been led by Professor S.V. Skybinskyi, and since 2003 and till now the head of the Department is Doctor of Economic Sciences and Prof. Y.A. Dainovskyi.

Department activities

The Department of Marketing staff is a friendly team of experienced scientists who provide training of highly qualified specialists in the field of marketing and advertising for almost all industries of the economy of Ukraine. Currently, specialists in marketing, advertising and public relations are in high demand in the labor market, therefore, the department’s mission is to organize and provide teaching of professional and practical direction disciplines focused on real needs of the business environment.

The professional level of the Department Staff is confirmed by scientific degrees, academic status, internships in Ukrainian and foreign institutions and certificates. All the Department specialists are members of the Ukrainian Marketing Association.

Educational Process

The Department graduates students with a degree in “Marketing”, “Advertising in Business” and “Advertising and Public Relations” and provides professional teaching of disciplines, including Marketing, Consumers’ Behavior, Commodity Market Infrastructure, Marketing Commodity Policy, Commodity Innovation Policy, Public Relations, Marketing Pricing Policy, Advertising Management, Distribution Marketing Policy, Marketing Management, Marketing of Industrial Enterprises, Marketing Research, Strategic Marketing, Communication Marketing Policy, Online Marketing, Brand Marketing, Marketing Techniques, World Commodity Markets, Service Marketing. All the disciplines include training and methodological support and distance learning courses. The Department effectively applies innovative methods for teaching disciplines in educational process.

The Department has a separate specialized computer room with appropriate software and the Internet access. The Department actively uses computer equipment in educational process for practical training and solving specific marketing tasks, assessing students’ knowledge, performing course, diploma and master works, conducting research and development.

The Department Staff significantly contribute to improving education process quality aiming at encouraging enterprises’ efficiency in the market environment, in particular through the application of modern marketing techniques.

Research areas

The Department Staff are actively engaged in research activities. More than five hundred scientific and methodical works have been published by the Staff of the Department of Marketing. First of all, there are more than two dozens of textbooks and manuals by Prof. S.V. Skybinsky; the sole authors and co-authors of several textbooks and manuals are Prof. Yu.A. Dainovskyi, Prof. B.B. Semak, Associate Professors I.V. Boichuk, L.O. Ivanova, N.F. Basii, L.M. Buk (Orel), U.R. Sukhorska, O. M. Vovchanska (Muzyka).

Over the past 10 years, the Department Staff have taken part in more than 70 international, Ukrainian, regional, inter-university and other scientific conferences, where they have shared the experience of solving activity problems of modern market entities using marketing principles as basis. The articles of the Department Staff are regularly published in leading economic journals of Ukraine, such as “Marketing in Ukraine”, “Marketing and Innovation Management”, “Regional Economy”, "Entrepreneurship, Business and Law", in scientific journals of the State Institution Institute of Regional Research named after M. I. Dolishniy of the NAS of Ukraine, leading universities of Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Donetsk, Chernivtsi, Lutsk, Uzhhorod and other cities of Ukraine and abroad (Prague, Krakow, Warsaw).

The Department regularly runs scientific seminars, where the Department Staff present their own research of marketing theory and practice. The scientific school “Usage of the results of theoretical and practical developments in order to improve the functioning of enterprises on the marketing concept and the implementation of innovative technologies of training in high school” is founded by the Department.

The students of the Department of Marketing actively participate in research work and become winners of All-Ukrainian Olympiads, the All-Ukrainian Competition of student research works and other academic competitions for gifted students. There is the student scientific club “Marketer Club” functioning at the Department.

Training and professional development

The Department is focused on the development of relations with foreign universities and other organizations in order to study and use international experience for training specialists in marketing and advertising and public relations. In particular Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor L.O. Ivanova had internship practice in November 2015 at the II International Scientific-Practical Forum “New Economics” in Krakow (Poland) - Kosice (Slovakia); Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor I.V. Boichuk in March 2016 had internship practice at the Academic Society of Michal Baludianskyi (Bratislava, Slovakia) and in July 2016 – at Prague Institute for Advanced Studies (Czech Republic). These teachers of the department have received international internship certificates.
