Department "Food Technologies" founded on 31.08.2016, with the Department of "Food technology, hotel and restaurant business", established in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council on 15September, 2011 and the order number 288/02. of 20 September 2011. Appointed head of the department prof. Oshchypok Igor.

Department of Food Technology trains specialists in the areas of "Food Technology and Engineering" (at the levels educational degree of Bachelor, Master) and "Hotel and Restaurant Business" (at the levels educational degree of Bachelor, Master). The Department is the Faculty of merchandise, administration and service sector

The department is constantly working to improve the material and technical base. The department created the modern laboratory technology products restaurant facilities, equipment facilities restaurant business, restaurant business organizations, which are equipped with modern facilities.

Within the framework of cooperation agreements, students undergoing practical training at the enterprises of hotel and restaurant business. Ground for scientific experiments is a leading industrial food processors and Lviv region: JSC "Lviv Travel Company - satellite" restaurants "Shakespeare" "Tara", "Dnister" bakery Lviv, Lviv Brewery, and more.

Студенти кафедри "Харчові технології" відвідали фестиваль "HoReCa Show Lviv 2017". Це другий унікальний фестиваль готельно-ресторанного бізнесу у Львові, що не має аналогів в Україні. Студенти відвідали цікаві лекції, семінари, майстер-класи від провідних шеф-кухарів України, Польщі, Великобританії, Румунії, Білорусії. Особливо вразило встановлення національного рекорду з приготування трьох тон куліша в одному казані.
Викладач кафедри Іжевська Орися Петрівна взяла участь в конкурсі кулінарного мистецтва, у номінації арт-класу "Квіти з цукру". Здобувши медаль, приємною несподіванкою для неї було одержання сертифікату на безкоштовне навчання у всесвітньо відомого шеф-кондитера національної збірної Ісландії Марії Шрамко (Maria Shramko) по класу "Цукрові квіти".

On October 18, 2017, the Day of the food industry employee was celebrated at the Faculty of Commodity, Management and Service Provision of the Lviv Trade and Economic University.
A high-class master cooking class for Italian cuisine desserts was demonstrated by Senior Lecturer of the Department of Food Technologies of the faculty Orysia Izhevska together with the students of the first year of the specialty "Food Technologies". In the process of preparing "Tiramisu" and dessert "Baci di dama", she described the history of the emergence of Italian desserts, and described in more detail the subtleties of their production.
The "highlight" of the holidays was an incredible cocktail show performed by the bar-manager of the hotel-restaurant complex Edem Resort Medical & SPA Yuriy Rivnyak who masterly prepared several types of cocktails. All present were able to dip into the world of barmen, inside to know the features of cooking cocktails from natural raw materials.
No less interesting and exciting was the master-class of the specialty "Food Technologies" of Mikhail Shura on gingerbread cookies. He showed in detail the entire technological process of their production, and made a special emphasis on finishing the surface of products.

On September 22, 2017, students of the 3rd year of the Faculty of Commodity, Management and Servicing, specialty "Food Technologies" with the teacher Izhevska Orysia Petrivna visited the 11th Lviv Coffee Festival To coffee in Lviv - the main coffee event of the year, which was held in Lviv on Svobody avenue.
Representatives of the coffee industry presented the best - selected coffee, exclusive coffee drinks and sweets, and even cute coffee and chocolate.
Many exotic varieties of this great beverage were presented, each of which is unique in its own way. Students learned about the shades and benefits of each, so that you could pick the taste of the most relevant event.
Surprised by the range of realistic chocolate products, which, at first glance, are no different from the real ones. Nuts, saws, bearings, keys, hammers and a lot of forging and joiner's hand made black pungent chocolate. Cocoa content is at least 80%. It is this chocolate that is considered the most useful.

May 30, 2017, at the Department of Food Technologies a master class was held on the topic: "Application of Sous-Vide Technology for Cooking Meat from Wild Animals and Poultry" Chef of the restaurant "Three Musketeers" Ivano-Frankivsk Demkiv Yuriy, Laureate Contest HoReCa Lviv - I place.

On May 18, 2017, an exhibition of works by teachers, students and employees of the Faculty of Commodity, Management and Service Sphere and a special guest of the "Fashion Theater" event at the Lviv College of Light Industry "KNUTD" was held.
Among the exhibits at the exhibition you could see unique authentic Ukrainian embroidered shirts, towels, tablecloths, napkins, paintings, icons.

Master class Italian cuisine

Western Group Chief with the Department of Food Technology Faculty TUSO held an exclusive master class Italian cuisine from famous chef Filippo Roberto from Venice. Student groups in "hotel and restaurant business" and "Food Technology and Engineering" had the opportunity to get acquainted with the subtleties and peculiarities of national cooking Italian cuisine

Workshop «Romanian cuisine"

Department of Food Technology in conjunction with the Western Group Chief cooks (WEST CHEF GROUP) held a workshop Romanian cuisine.

The event was attended by teaching staff of the department, students bachelors and masters degree in "Food Technology and Engineering" and "hotel and restaurant business."

Master Class conducted by renowned chef from Romania Patrich iFlorin, who was able to capture all present skill cooking specialties of their homeland.

At the workshop were prepared "crow medallions with cherry balls", "salad hravlaksom" sauces and filling these dishes for Romanian recipes. Also present were able to learn about the tastes and traditions of the Romanian cuisine, preparation of national dishes as "ciorbă" "Hominy", "Plechynta" and others.

All interested persons were able to feel the spirit of Romania at the Department of Food Technology Academy in native walls!

Master of diploma projects

The Department of Food Technology 22-23 February 2017 ended with the diploma projects master education degree "Master" TUSO students majoring in "hotel and restaurant business."

20 students successfully presented to the Members of the Examination Committee (EC) of the projects that have been protected with an "excellent" and "good." Committee work headed ekzamennatsiynoyi N.R. Dzhuryk, Associate Professor of Food Technology and restaurant business Lviv Institute of economy and tourism. The composition of EC include: department head prof. Ohschypok I.M., assistant professor Blisch R.A. and associate professor of tourism and hotel and restaurant business Melnik I.M., Secretary - zav.laboratoriyi department of tourism and hotel and restaurant business Hlopko T.V.

This year future specialists of hotel and restaurant business offering hotels and other accommodation establishments of different categories in the cities of Western Ukraine.

EC appreciated the high degree of Master Projects originality of concepts establishments difficulty and complexity of projects, reasonableness and prudence organizational, technological and technical and economic decisions and expressed confidence that if the building presents business hotel and restaurant industry will certainly be profitable for owners and attractive to visitors.
